After two moving editions, the Léman hope project will take on board 48 young people in recovery from cancer as of Saturday, departing from the ports of Ouchy and Pully*. This year, no less than 11 sailing boats split into two 4-day trips – from 9 to 13 July and from 16 to 20 July respectively – will be sailing on Lake Geneva, including 4 boats with 15 Swiss-German young people.
The Léman hope family continues to grow and doubles its capacity compared to last year. This is good news for young people in recovery from cancer who want to look to the future with optimism. They will take part in a unique 4-day and 4-night sailing trip on Lake Geneva. Fun and rewarding, this life changing adventure represents for them the opportunity to assert themselves outside the family framework through sailing.
A highlight of this new edition is that the sailing trips will welcome 15 young German-speaking cancer survivors. For this occasion, the organizers have called on the services of fully bilingual instructors and skippers.
“We are delighted to welcome young people from all over Switzerland this year, even though the entire Léman hope team will speak the same language: the one of sharing and a taste for adventure”, says Esteban Garcia, initiator of the project in Switzerland and founder of the Léman hope Foundation. In the long term, Léman hope aims to welcome all young Swiss people in recovery from cancer in a unique adventure which empowers and unlock abilities to feel confident again.
On Sunday 10 July, the singer Fanny Leeb will once again do the honour of joining the trip with a musical performance dedicated to the young people. Having gone through the painful experience of cancer herself, she will be able to touch each of the young sailors with her messages of hope and common experience.
*Due to the Tour de France, which goes through the usual departure point of Léman hope, the starting point will exceptionally be from the Pully nautical centre. We thank them warmly for their welcome and their willingness to help.
